Cuba Wireless: Strong Potential


Cuba has Latin America’s smallest wireless market, even behind Haiti.

With the easing of US restrictions on business with Cuba, one sector that could gain is the telecommunications sector.

Cuba’s wireless sector was already one of the fastest-growing in Latin America before the US policy change, but has enormous potential due to still low levels.

Cuba represents the last major telecommunications market of the Americas with more than 11 million inhabitants and a mobile penetration of roughly 20 percent while the vast majority of Latin America and Caribbean market surpass the 100 percent penetration mark,” says Jose Otero, Director of Latin America and Caribbean at trade group 4G Americas and a leading expert on Latin American telecommunications.
